Park behind Clem's Bait Shop on 9th street and walk across the bridge or down the bike path to view the River.

This site is best in the winter because the outflow of the dam keeps the Thunder Bay River from freezing most years. It is a congregating point for Mergansers, Shovelers, Teal, Oldsquaw, Bufflehead, Golden-eye, and many varieties of Ducks. Rare Harlequin Ducks were spotted at this location. Eagles, Herons, Cormorants, Hawks and a black Mink worked the shoreline this past winter (2010).

The walking trail/bike bath is owned by the City of Alpena and open to the public. Fishermen at the Dam often compete with the birds!
