This rustic campground is located on the Sturgeon River, the Lower Peninsula’s fastest river. The Sturgeon River is a popular trout fishing stream and the campground offers anglers direct access to the river. The Sturgeon River also offers opportunities for paddle sports. The campground is separated into three small loops. The campsites at Haakwood are spacious, wooded and offer an element of privacy to visitors. There is a small parking lot on the south end of the campground and a short footpath that leads down to the river.

There are 18 sites for tent, small trailer and large trailer use. Camping is limited to a 15-day maximum stay. Amenities include vault toilets and potable water from a hand-pump well. The campground is located two miles north of Wolverine via South Straits Highway. Sites available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No reservations.
