Park in the lot off of Long Rapids Road, near Alpena Regional Medical Center, just off of N. US-23. It is called Duck Park" and has a canoe or kayak launch site."
The marshy area and slow-moving Thunder Bay River provide nesting habitat for many marsh birds. The only nesting record of a King Rail was from here. Belted Kingfishers, Ducks, Swans, Geese and many waterfowl species in the Thunder Bay River.
Duck Park owned by the City of Alpena and has an excellent butterfly/native plant exhibit.
